Child pose is one of my favourite yoga poses.
It gives me a sense of cosiness and closeness with myself when I’m gently relaxing forward, head supported, paying attention to my inner experience. It is not about the perfectly executed shape on the floor, but rather the possibility to slow down and shift my attention from what’s out there towards my inner self.
Kriyananda’s affirmation associated with this pose further enhances this:
I relax from outer involvement into my inner haven of peace.
Maybe next time you are in child pose you can mentally repeat this affirmation and see what happens – I’d love to hear about your experience ✨
There are many options to make this pose accessible: using a pillow between hips and feet, placing a block to support your head, or maybe sitting on a chair with your head resting on a few pillows on a table. It’s about finding what works for you, on your own or with expert support, especially if you’re navigating health challenges.
I sometimes use this affirmation in other neutral poses or during meditation, as a reminder to let go of outward perceptions and reconnect with the peace and wisdom within.
Why is this important?
There’s growing evidence that interoception, the interpretation and integration of signals from within the body by the nervous system, plays a fundamental role in health and wellbeing. I’ll share more about this in one of my upcoming posts.
