I have recently received a message with the instructions to create the Water of St John. This is a brew now part of the Christian tradition for St John’s night between the 23rd and 24th of June, but that our ancestors likely prepared a few days earlier to celebrate the Summer Solstice.
The idea is that on the 23rd (or 20th of June if you prefer to have it ready for the Solstice on the 21st) you collect flowers and herbs that you’ll then place outside in a bowl of water, ready to receive the healing energies that the dew is believed to bring to your infusion during this magic night(s). You can use lavender, mint, thyme, basil, sage, rosemary, or any other plants that your intuition suggests – just be kind to the plants before you take their leaves and flowers, maybe giving some water in return, or a kind thought that they may grow strong and healthy.
In the morning, you can use the Water of St John to wash your hands and face and then pour it into the Earth as you let go of your sorrow, worries and pain. The Earth will take care of what does not serve you anymore and transform it into new energy that will nourish and support you as you grow in line with your heart’s deepest desires. As we welcome the longest day and the shortest night in the Northern hemisphere, we are invited to celebrate the radiance of our inner light, the only source of infinite joy and abundance.
