Diwali is the incredibly beautiful Indian Festival of Lights.
In the darkest period of the year, at least for our hemisphere, Diwali comes to remind us of the everlasting light within ourselves.
It doesn’t matter what we are going through or how we define ourselves. The Light, that spark I like to call the Soul, our true essence beyond all social definitions and labels, is always within ourselves. We might feel we are in complete darkness and overwhelmed by all sorts of issues and situations. Yet, that light remains, it is our anchor, our true guide.
We can imagine that light as a warm, bright fire in our heart. Sometimes, worries, low self-esteem, anxiety, illnesses and many more adversities might cover and hide that fire. We can’t feel its warmth anymore and all we see is a dark space full of all the shadows of our fears and uncertainties. We can live in that cold, scary place or decide to clear what is obscuring the fire – the choice is ours. However, the impact of this choice is not only on us, but on all those around us. If we cover our fire, all the people around us will experience the dimming of the light.
It is our choice, it is your choice to see the light. If you are suffering and are not sure where you are going or why, this is the time to look inside, deep within you. The light of who you truly are, of your strengths and talents, is in you, just waiting to be (re)discovered. Lighting the fire in our heart is the only way to see in the darkness. And when the light shines, the clear path will appear in front of you.
This is the path of joy and realisation that is just waiting for your first step in its direction.
